Bike Ride
Somerville to Pleasure Bay/Castle Island, South Boston
JULY 1, 2024
Hi Bluebikes Community - we just got you the perfect weekend activity for this summer!
While everyone can just jump on a Bluebikes and cruise around the city, we put together an amazing bike ride that combines the best benefits of biking - a ride with a view AND a cool destination. This path is via bike lanes ONLY and without any major hills making it accessible to everyone. The whole ride is about 6 miles long and will take about 30 to 45 min depending on your starting location.
Almost forgot to tell you where we’re going .. to the beach of course!
Step 1
This ride is specifically designed for Somerville residents as we will start our journey on the Somerville Community Path. There are multiple access points - just grab a bike from whatever station is the closest to you.
Step 2
Coming to the end of the bike lane we will continue to pass Cambridge Crossing. Reaching Hult International Business School, we will take a right and then a left onto Monsignor O’Brion Highway/ Charles River Dam Road to cross the Charles River via the Museum of Science Bridge.
Step 3
Take a left onto Causeway Street and continue straight on Commercial Street. Follow along this waterfront road all the way through the North End.
Step 4
Reaching Long Wharf/ Aquarium we have a little extra add on for you. Dock your Bike at the Aquarium T Stop Station and take a quick break with some Lemonade, Ice Cream etc.
Step 5
Walk through straight and continue your bike ride at Rowes Wharf at Atlantic Ave station.
Step 6
From here, we will take a left onto Seaport Boulevard Bridge to make our way to South Boston. We continue on that road passing by Seaport.
Step 7
We take a right onto Harbour Street and then a left turn onto Summer Street Bridge.
Step 8
From here, we go straight until Broadway where we turn left.
Step 9
Now it’s just straight - until you reach the waterfront again. The station is directly at the crossing (Murphy Skating Rink).
Dock your bike and enjoy your beach day!
